August 11, 2002 We took a trip from the Millersburg ferry Campground to New Buffalo today. The water was low and we scraped a lot and had to walk once. We paddled among the rocks below Millersburg and then reached the shallow area where we had to walk. Then we crossed a few small ledges. We then came to a nice ledge with a good chute and a big wave. We played here for a long time. I tried surfing the wave and it washed right over my bow and into my cockpit. I took in so much water I had to back away and bail out. I nearly sunk. I came back and surfed it some more until I finally went down. I would just go up over one wave and under the next. My little Otter only holds so much water before it sinks. The leisurely trip took about 4 hours. The river gauge at Harrisburg was about 3.03 feet.
